I would have thought the Ford internet people Ford has assigned to monitor FocusFanatics whom say they report these issues to the departments within the FoMoCo, should be helping the engineers or whoever is in charge to fix these things would fix these things.
What the heck is going in inside of Ford USA?
Would be appreciated if the person (I think its Cory) who is monitoring these forums for Customer Service to comment on , why there are no actions or at least it appears there are no actions from Ford correcting these fit and finish faults that owners have dealt with now for over a year. To read that this real tail lamp fitting fault is still appearing on this years ST is ridiculous.
So this is still an issue? Even on the cars even being built today??

However, Cory, what is the protocol if the problem is still the same even after a 'fix'?...
I appreciate the support, HuskerFocus.

Itís best to get this in the hands of the dealer. Iíve got your info from before, so drop me a line via PM and Iíll have your CSM call you.

yes, this is happening still.

My focus ST has a build date of 12/3/12-- it is roughly 3 months old and after 1500 miles I have this already:

Can you show me a larger picture? I'm having a tough time actually figuring out where the damage is. I looked on a car in the showroom but am not quite sure I know what the real issue is (I'm dumb apparently).

Read my first post. Many tail-lamps are shipping tight against the body, so when the unit vibrates, it chips paint. There's an adjustment pin that keeps the fin part of the cluster from being flush, thus fixing this problem.

My dealer replaced the entire tail light assembly ... I picked up my car after the techs left (this was last fall) ... there is still rubbing. It appears that the ONLY way to prevent the issue is to add washers or some other piece to the assembly to give it clearance. My build was 12/19/11, sad to hear it's still an issue a year later

The problem is that the tail lights

A) fit poorly in the opening
and
B) have sharp 'flashing' around the edge of the lamp

in many cars this flashing rubs the paint around the 'tip' of the tail lamp on 5-door models, however chipping or rubbing has been found anywhere around the perimeter of the rear lamps. Many people report the plastic pushed up tight around the metal to the point where is squeaks when you lightly push on it.

My damage can ONLY be seen with the lamps off the car but my car also only has 1500 miles on it.

Easiest check is to run a piece of paper around the tail light. If it is able to go all the way around with being stopped/caught up, it's probably okay. Mine had a few spots where it was right up against the body, and therefore no way to let the paper through.

I swear I'm not actually a moron! This is the are where I looked on the car in the showroom but wasn't 100% certain if I was looking at the right thing because I didn't quite understand how the damage was done. I did read the entire thread, silent.

I appreciate the picture, wrx. That's what I thought everyone was referring to. But when I spoke to my salesman he had no idea about what I was talking about. Hopefully when I talk to the guys in the shop they'll know how to fix it. The car in the showroom definitely had the taillight flush to the body.
