Any thoughts on oil

Well ITS was at our Walmart hate that place ,anyway they have ford motorcraft 5 w 20 full syn 5 qt jug for $17 . I have always ran castrol gtx in all my other cars , never used full syn . Just askin for opinions. Keep on

I'm running Motorcraft 5w20 full synthetic in my '12 Focus. It's good stuff. Allows you to run cooler and reduce engine deposits. Though I've seen that a lot of members prefer Castrol.

Reducing engine deposits is key in a GDI, as fuel (w/ cleaning agents) is not drawn through the intake valves (only air).

The Motorcraft 5W20 at Walmart for $17-18 is semi-syn, not full syn. UOA results on BITOG.com have shown the semi-syn to perform very well in different applications.

Get the cheapest oil you can find, couple it with a decent filter, change it every 3k and you'll be fine for a very, very long time.

That oil is a semi-synthetic oil, not a full synthetic oil. It's a decent oil, but adding petroleum oil to a synthetic oil only serves to reduce the performance of the synthetic oil.

You wont generally find high-end products at Walmart.

Cheap oil = cheap results.

Old Chinese man say, "You get what you pay for".

The 3,000 mile drain pain is a throwback to the 1960's, over 50 years ago now. Technology does advance. Even the greedy Big Oil industry doesn't recommend 3,000 mile drain pain intervals anymore. It's a waste of money and resources. Changing oil too often can also damage an engine, causing premature wear.

For $17, it's pretty good oil, and what Ford recommends for many of their vehicles as well (along with their full synthetic alternative).

Local auto stores typically sell it for $25-ish per jug.

My car has 265,000. Has never had waste of money synthetic in it. With a good filter and proper change intervals for the quality of oil you're using, it'll run forever. Don't fall for all that "research" saying synthetic is better. It's all bias so they can get better deals from their oil distributers.
