False, it's not the highest trim level and performance wise, not in the same group. The RS just came out. The sonic ltz is a snail compared to other cars you listed. Maybe if chevy came out with a SS model, it would be comparable. And I'm saying SS because the RS has no bump in hp or torque numbers.
I'd be down for a comparo between the other cars you listed.

For those of you comparing the Abarth to the Fiesta ST, they are different class cars all together. The Fiat 500 is the same chassis as the Ford Ka. I think the Ka is built in the same factory in Italy as well. Nope Tychy, Poland.

I'd consider one! A Fiesta RS would be cool if they made one of those!!

So I test drove a Fiesta SE hatch on Saturday. Came away pretty impressed with the car overall. The interior space seemed only a bit smaller than the SVT, maybe a inch or two tighter in legroom and definitely a bit narrower. I wish the seats would fold like they do in the Focus, where the bottoms come up and the backs go nearly flat. Still very useable in terms of cargo space though. My only complaints will be addressed by the ST: cheap interior materials (especially the wheel, shift knob/boot, and radio controls), not quite enough power, and too much body roll.
I'm pretty sure the Fiesta ST will be my next car. Just need to pick a color, but leaning towards the exclusive Molten Orange.

As for the Abarth and the Fiesta ST being in different classes, while that it's true if we were in Europe they would be. The thing is-we're not in Europe and as such, both the Abarth and the Fiesta ST would be considered subcompacts here in North America.

The Fiesta ST is assembled in Cuautitlan, Mexico and that would be a deal breaker for me. I am not a total "buy American" nut but just the same I prefer to support American workers and prefer not to support a completely corrupt Mexican government. Your mileage may vary on the issue and that's OK.

Build and Price is live!
Build Your 2014 Ford Fiesta Starts at $21,400. Options can push that over 26k. Mine would be 25,160 (Molten orange paint, gray wheels, Recaro interior, no moonroof). Idk, it would be hard to justify not spending 2k more to get the Focus ST2. I'd miss the heated seats, but that's about it.
