How to: Lower hvac led mod

ok so by now you all have seen my how to on the upper hvac but are wondering

ok so what about the lower hvac,well here you go i will explain my way of doing this conversion for the following colors that as of now i have experienced. as i go along and do other colors i will update this thread with any changes,

these instructions will be individualized by color starting with red.

i will begin with the basics and that is getting the lower hvac cluster separated

first what you must do is take a thin flat screwdriver and separate the 2 halves with your palm as you separate each section pull the 2 ends apart once you do this the underside should be alot easier.

this is how you will do it...

once you open up the lower hvac you will expose the board like this...

at this point you will need to remove the plastic rivits that secure the board to the hvac face this is what they look like...

you need a nice pair of wire cutter/strippers to remove these rivets without potentially ruining the hvac by scratching it and messing up the embedded wire traces on the board.this is how you will remove the rivits with the cutters...

when your done remove the board from the face by lifting it out from the center


now that where done with the removal part its time for the led swap.


we will start with RED SMD

on the board to your right you will notice that there are 2 smds and to the left there are 4 you need to remove these once you do you will need to solder in the new red smds according to the following instruction,


the upper left red smd will be placed with the polarity side down(the flat part of the smd not the part that has a corner notched off)

the lower left smd will go with the polarity side going up.

the upper right smd that you will install next will go exactly how the upper left smd you just installed is.

the lower right smd also will go exactly how the lower left is.

once you do that cluster of four go on to the next 2 that our on the right

ok so for the top right you will install the smd with the polarity going up

and for bottom smd you will install it with the polarity side going down.

UPPER LEFT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP,

LOWER LEFT SMD POLARITY SIDE DOWN

UPPER RIGHT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP

SMDS LOCATED TO THE FAR RIGHT OF LOWER HVAC IN CLUSTERS OF 2

FAR RIGHT UPPER SMD POLARITY SIDE DOWN

R RIGHT LOWER SMD POLARITY SIDE UP




WHITE SMD LED INSTALL

UPPER LEFT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP

LOWER LEFT SMD POLARITY SIDE DOWN

UPPER RIGHT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP

LOWER RIGHT SMD POLARITY SIDE DOWN


SMD'S THAT ARE LOCATED TO THE FAR RIGHT OF HVAC IN CLUSTERS OF 2


FAR UPPER RIGHT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP

FAR LOWER RIGHT SMD POLARITY SIDE UP

once you install your choice of leds all you need to do is reinstall the pcb board back on the hvac face with the gray rubber buttons and dab some hot

glue onto the rivits you popped off to secure the board back onto the face

once you do all this snap the to halves together and install in your cars

HOPE THIS HELPS WITH YOUR INSTALLS GUYS.

I didn't post up anymore pics since this conversion is fairly easy and its just annoying getting the leds to light up so this explanation should help you avoid all issues with this mod and to minimize your time going back and forth to your car to see if all the leds turn on.
