Exedy OEM Replacement Clutches
Hey guys, its clutch changing season again for my 01 Zetec.
The last clutch I installed was a Perfection Clutch pack from NAPA. It has got 79k miles and is starting to slip. The original went 82k. I was eyeballing a Exedy OEM clutch pack from Amazon for 139 US. That is a hell of a deal. Anyone used a exedy kit? How do they hold? I can get a Sachs which I know is what came with the car for 204 US. Is the exedy worth the money savings?

If you want a longer lasting unit. you have to go HD (heavy duty) or stage 1. the clutch feel will be a little diferent because of the spring force in the pressure plate, it will hook up better and last longer.

If you want a long lasting clutch, OEM is the way to go. Aftermarket performance clutches just don't have the same life span as a stock clutch.
Not sure about with the focus but I don't believe Exedy holds up at all in the Contour. Also, if your clutch is only lasting 80k, I would look into how its being driven. My 95 Mystique w/Zetec had the original clutch at 228k when I sold the car, it has over 250k on it now. And even if it wasn't orginal I put 142k miles on it over 10 years.

It is a multi user car, and I dont particularly baby it. Im assuming that is why they are only lasting so little.
I do my own clutch jobs so its not that big of a deal to replace often but if OEM will outlive a aftermarket I am willing to try.

Heavy duty , more abuse or use. Ford like most OEM's put in the cheapest parts they can find or make. The disk material is still organic, but the pressure plate has a larger clamping force, so less slip, less wear on friction plate, pressure plate, and flywheel. Exedy knows their stuff, but alot of their parts can only be used with their parts, clutches with flywheels.
