FYI - There "is" an aftermarket manufacturer with a 'new' cast for the SPI SOHC head that supposedly addresses the dropped valveseat problem and makes it a non-issue. A thread somewhere here in this section during the last year was started on this topic.

Neither do I. And I am sure I am one of the guys to whom you are referring.

Sorry to be a repeat offender, but I am sick and tired of a few guys with a zetec superiority complex trashing the SPI. it has been going on for years, and it is my greatest pet peeve on this forum. I don't want this to be a zetec vs. spi war. But I will always stand up for my little red-headed step child.

There is a way to point out the problems with respect (as glassmaker often does) and their are ways to stir up trouble by posting inflammatory and unnecessary statements.

The reason I ask, the spi atx will swap over to the zetec. Although it's geared different it works absolutely perfect. I just wonder if it had a different redline than the spi.

What would be required to put an external tach on a focus that doesn't have one. That's my goal to do soon but it doesn't seem like it would be a plug and play situation without the proper sensor or whatever. Just curious

The basic tachs are easy to install, most are 4 wires, 1 hot/power, 1 ground, 1 for light and the other taps into the #1 spark plug wire (by wrapping around it) OR taps into the coil packs wiring harness.

it would take almost the same amount of time/money to find a whole gauge cluster with the tach and replace the one you have now. Just find one with 500-5k miles more than yours and swap them when you get to the mileage on the one you're replacing with.

yeah my manual 03 lx se doesnt have a tach, but it doesnt bother me to much, shift with the sound very ez
