Ok, I guess I just don't have a clear picture of what the stock exhaust system looks like, and I can't seem to get a hold of one. I notice cat-back systems go from what looks like a resonator to the tail pipe, I'm not really sure what's ahead of that, but from what you're saying, it must just be the manifold/cat, some pipe, and then whats included in a cat-back system.

From the bottom this parts diagram from Fordparts.com shows the exhaust routing from the engine back to the rear muffler (shown top right).

From the exhaust manifold lies the first catalyst, if equipped the secondary catalyst is located immediately behind this first one. (PZEV and California spec Emissions vehicles only afaik). Then comes the first resonator/ muffler, then more piping, a secondary small muffler, and then the lunchbox out the back.

Thanks for the diagram. So it looks like the cat-back systems get rid of one of those smaller mufflers/resonators, since there seems to be only one small cylinder right at the front (behind the cat), and then the large muffler at the rear.

Someone mentioned wanting the sedan part number. For a 2013 sedan, it's 15138, which seems to be going for $707.06. That's a bit steep for me right now. Well, at least @ Amazon the shipping would be free...

Weird.. ive got the sport package I had my pzev cat the first muffler then the last transverse muffler at tge end nothing else and it varied from 2.0 to 2.25 in the whole exhaust

This is everything minus the cat at the end that needed ti be cut for the magnaflow exhaust till I made my test pipe

I can pick up the system for about the same price as ShogunSamurai2005, but its the hatchback version. Would there be any issues with cutting it and adding an extra piece of pipe and welding that in for it to be the correct length? I can't see how the sedan version costs $700 and the hatchback version costs $500.

Back to this for a second. From what I hear, the cat is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. When you say its integrated into the exhaust manifold, are you saying you can't physically replace it without replacing the manifold? My focus isn't in CA or PZEV so I'm assuming that's my only cat. You'd think you'd get better performance if you swap out that one with a magnaflow one for example, right?

I called up a local shop and wanted to ask about them installing this system if I brought it to them. The guy went into being able to make a custom system. In the end, it looks like 2.5" compression bent stainless steel, no resonator, and either a regular magnaflow 1 in 1 out, or a camaro/firebird magnaflow 1 in 2 out. Said he could do a cut out for the tips in the bumper too. He said it will be a 14 or 18 inch muffler, I forget which he said. All this for $500.

Any comments? I'm wondering how it will be with the resonator, and I'll have to try to look up that camaro muffler.

A modern catalyst is no where near as restrictive as they were in the past. I suppose you could theoretically change the exhaust manifold/ header and mount a so called performance catalyst but I'm not sure you would see sufficient gains to justify having spent that much for the header + a separate high flow catalyst.

You really don't want crush bent tubing as it would constrict the diameter too much and hurt the air flow, Mandrel bent tubing is better.

No resonators would also probably get louder than the after market set ups.

Thanks again for the info. I decided to not go the custom route, and I snagged the Magnaflow 15138 kit for a reasonable price. Now to decide if I want to find friends with the jacks, stands, and tools to do it myself, or find a reputable shop to install it.
