Ethanol corrodes fuel lines, especially when they are not rated for it. E10-E15 is fine, but E20-E85 won't work on cars without improved fuel lines.

Ethanol fuel also requires larger fuel injectors or else you run the risk of running too lean on a car not calibrated for it, which could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

10% isn't anything big to worry about it doing anything to damage the motor or fuel system
And you would have to let the car sit for a while before the ethanol corrodes the fuel lines and rust the injectors. That's why you never allow the car to sit longer than a week if you are running e85.

Its the older motors where E10 was at risk of damage, my comments were directed more so at E85 and why its a bad idea to run it on cars not set up for it.

E85 sucks for energy density, and would get poorer fuel economy, but even E10 hurts fuel economy over E0. I'd rather only run E0 if it was available here, but it wasn't.

So I just went on a 40 mile drive after gassing up with Shell V-Power 93 when I was nearly on empty. Due to slight traffic I set cruise control to 55 and left it their for the whole ride. Is this number correct? I know that the focus advertises 40 mpg but I don't know what the testing requirements for that number is. I am sure that driving 55 increased my mpg but is this picture accurate given my conditions?

Looks about right. On 87 octane at 55 mpg highways, my 5 speed car will get a touch over 40 mpg.

With 375 miles on the odometer, you must have reset the mpg average while you were driving 55mph.

Your engine isn't broken in yet to achieve a true average of 47.4

My motor has 3k on it and with Sunoco 93 I get about 45mpg while cruising at 55mph. So I'd say that it could be possible tht that 47 is correct?

I'm using the same Shell 93 gas. I trip tracked my tank and with mostly city driving, and having fun most of the time, I got 300 miles and 24 avg mpg out of the tank. I just filled it back up with the same gas and plan to try to drive more fuel efficiently. I reset the trip so I can track it again. I also want to try driving 40 miles at 55 mph and see if I get same result, however that is hard to do in a fun car like this >8)
