Will not start
I drive a 2004 ford focus. Today when I started it, it shuttered until I put it in reverse. It was fine until I came to a stoplight, it then sputtered and died. When I tried to restart it, it would turnover then immediately die. I was told it could be my fuel pump, starter, or EGR valve. Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Prior to this the check engine light was not, and it will not start to see if it is on or not. Last edited by Jbrooks54; 02-06-2013 at 04:23 PM. |

If it was on, there will be a code stored. I would start by finding out which code it is and go from there. There are a lot of possibilities.

That's what mine did last year. I dropped a valve and screwed up the whole motor. Now I'm going to attempt an engine swap, from a sohc to a dohc zetec

To the OP, please identify your engine for us. Go look under the hood, Ford used 2 different 2.0 engines in that YM vehicle. One will have spark plugs that go into the top of the valve cover, and Zetec on the valve cover. The other will have spark plugs that go into the side of the cylinder head, and "Split Port Injection" on the valve cover. Dropping a valve creates a lack of compression, as does a timing belt, so if your engine is turning over faster than it used to- that is a sign of something other than a fuel pump. You should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for approximately 3 secs after turning the key from off to on. You can hear this in any car, so go listen in a running car so you know what to listen for. If you don't hear the fuel pump buzz, that is one sign of a bad fuel pump.

Some cars have a little door above the fuel pump so u can change them. I haven't seen a focus yet that has one. So that means that u will have to drop the tank. No big problem. Just unhook the bands that hold it up and down it comes. If u have any trouble just ask for the help
