LOL ... yea. James with the Mazda 2? ...

Actually it was Seth with the same silver style Mazda 2.

There are now 4 Mazda 2s that make it to the event every so often. And 3 of them also Rally. Including Seth here ... when I finish the photos you will see.

The Z2 might end up being faster. I did beat Ray for the first time on them. They feel much different than the Z1, softer from an input standpoint. I've been thinking a lot about it and I think they may operate at a larger slip angle. They'll let you get further out of line before they truly let go. If this ends up being the case then I think their increased speed is likely to come from being more forgiving of mistakes. They're also much much louder when they squeal then the Z1s ever were. I doubt they'll prove to be the fast tire to have, but they're a good tire.

Change in plans for my tires. Only able to run 4 out of the 10 local SCCA events due to work. So I'm either getting the Rivals or RS-3s in 225/45/15. Not sure which ones to get yet. Leaning towards the RS-3s though.

I'm looking for some rubber to through on my stock 16x6 5 spokes (I run in HS and since my Focus is an '07, I can't go with and taller or wider of a wheel).
Have any of you tried running a wider tire than the stock 205/50s on a 16x6" rim? I likin' what I'm hearin' bout the 225/45 ZII but think I might be crazy for tryin' to wrap'em around such narrow rims...thoughts?

Don't do it (at least until more testing is done on the current offerings in the uber street tire category). Any gain in grip will be moot due to the lack of feel.

So are you saying the lack of feel would result from using the zIIs or because of using a 8.86" wide tire on a 6" wide wheel?

Too wide of a tire on too narrow a wheel.

Good street tire info.

Even more good street tire info.

Agreed. These tires are great but are not Hoosier's where you keep stuffing more tire, wheel width be damned.

A few years ago, on my S14, I had some 245's (9.5") on 8" wheels. It was ok. I found a good deal on 9" wheels and it was night and day difference. I was dumbfounded at the difference.
