This is the only place I've found Mobil make mention of Mobil1 NOACK numbers.

The only place I've ever seen a 'chart' for comparison purposes is on the many Amsoil independent sites, which I'm not going to rely on. There's no telling how old the information is, and I have no reason to believe anything Amsoil has to say about Mobil1.

So why a 10w40 instead of 5w30 ?

There's no reason to use a 10W-40 oil in anything besides a lawn mower. You don't want an oil that's thicker at startup than a 5W. If you live in a very hot climate and temps never drop below 70 degrees, it won't make much difference. But up north, stick with 5W & 0W where allowed by the application.

A 5W-40 would also be good for a turbo application, as by the time it shears, it'll be down to a 30 anyway.

^ well prob, my mind is still back home then... Thats what i use to use in my gc, thats what predator/ams use on their evos, sti's and other I4t monsters.

Mentioning old information, the link you posted regarding Mobil 1 Noack volatility numbers was dated January 29, 2010, three years ago.

turbo cars love rotella t6 5w40. mobil1 5w30 is garbage and shears too early causing engine damage.
