I also have the same problem. 34k on the 09 Focus. The only thing that's due on this car is the Fuel filter. I don't want to start throwing money...its too early for this car. No CEL. I've dealt with 200k miles engines...and by far the Focus is the worst.

* PCV valve hose seems to be a common problem...even at a early age* I'll report back with my findings.

The Zetec PCV has tons of threads on it. The low idle problem comes from collapsing elbows or the whole hose collapsing- in that car, with that engine. There have been no low idle issues with Duratec PCV hoses- only difficulty reaching the line.
One FF had luck with a long angled pair of needle nose pliers. No intake removal required.

That was what he said he used to re-install the PCV on a Duratec. I don't know how he did it exactly. A dab of oil on the inside of the hose makes it slip on easier. I've looked- it might be possible, but in my case it's not damaged so I'm not messing with it. I am removing my intake manifold to replace it due to tumble flap issues, and I'll do it and the thermostat while it's off.

I really don't understand how you could get the valve out without taking the intake off. The valve is held into the breather on the block by a strange built in clip that I had issues with even with the manifold off. I could see doing the hose with the manifold on perhaps, but the valve, no way.

Odd. The Fuel Filter is supposed to be located within the gas tank on the 2009 Focus? I think it was in the owner's manual, it's been a while, so I can't remember where i read it.
