Youre better off sticking with the factory battery for a few years until it dies and getting an everstart from walmart. You can buy 2 batteries for the price of 1 optima red top. Hell maybe even 3. I had a red top in my cougar. It looked cool for shows but sucked for storage in winter. If it died it was a pita to charge. Actually had it replaced under warranty and the replacement wasnt much better. I wont buy another one. My cougar was stored a lot but the battery was always unhooked so that could be a factor. Unless your mounting it on its side or upsidedown stick with a conventional battery. Diehard is rated very good as well. There was actually a girl on NECO whos mustang caught fire because of a red top. My mustang has an everstart from walmart in it now and it is stored similar to the way my cougar was. It cranks right over no problem. If your worried about it starting in winter, get a better cca battery.

That is cheap but if yohr car is new theres no need to replace it with a red top IMO unless you want it just for looks. Heck the stock battery lasted 5 years and 125k in my Escape before I replaced it. Its not that their junk, I just dont think their better than any other battery. I think they suck for a car in storage for sure.

Optima batteries are an excellent starting solution, as I've never had a problem up here north of most of ya.
Though I would prefer a yellow top, as its a deep cycle battery. (Side note, most modern chargers/maintainers support AGM Batteries) |

My factory battery went after 8 months. Dealer replaced it under warranty with a Motorcraft Max battery, works great for me.
