MPG with All City Driving

I've been using my car to delivery drive, since picking up the car at the end of November I've averaged over 70 miles a day since. Car is a manual.

As other have stated this car is very sensitive to throttle position get the higher mileage. I've seen tanks as low as 19 MPG pure city (pen and paper) and as high as 27 in the same conditions with a lighter foot. The type of driving this car goes through is not standard, it's constant stop and go traffic as well and turning off and on the vehicle upwards of 50 times a day. Fifteen to twenty 1-4 mile trips throughout the day.

On the other end of the spectrum here when I am not working and am casually driving I've seen city mileage hover low 30's with mild traffic and decent luck on lights.

I usually get 24-26. I live and work in the same suburb so my commute is less than 5 miles, all stop and go on residential streets. I love the chances when I take a longer trip and get into the 30s!

Same here. I do about 80miles highway a week and the rest is Ann Arbor city...ugh. My last fill up was 26.4 mpg doing the math. A little less on the mpg gauge.

30- 35 mpg all city.

24.5 MPG. Winter fuel, and my commute route is FULL of stop signs and stop-n-go. I don't cruise for more than 30sec before I have to stop again.

American yes, but Imperial not US gallon.

So, 30-35 would be more like 25-29...

Normally if I have city and highway driving I average more around 30. Since these numbers seemed low to me I figured since I just got the car in december - maybe I need to adjust my driving habits. Since my last car was a 2004 Toyota Echo I started to realize that I push down on the accelator a little fast. In my old car that's what it took to get her moving...but in the focus it just seems to waste more fuel.

So after the fillup yesterday I decided to ease up on the acceleration and try to retrain my foot for the focus. Keeping an eye on the avg mpg I've traveled about 100 miles since yesterday in city conditions and kept it between 27-28 mpg. I've been working on better acceleration and maintaining a speed vs constantly changing. So we'll see how that improves my mpg.

Driving habit is everything but driving like that in the city can be a challenge.

Wow the city streets must be longer in Calgary.

I do about 8.6 l/100 km which is about 24.5 MPG out here in Vancouver.
