Go with a 2.25'' flexback from Magnaflow. the exhaust has no resonator, only a magnaflow mufler, all in Stainless Steel. ;)
And, put a Steeda Short ram intake or cold air intake in it. Exhaust + intake make the duratec sounds really deep. No need to take off the cat... My car sounds really loud even with it, and will past inspection. eheh

I'm doing the work myself. So all that is costing me is the piping.
Thank God I have no Inspections here. xD Going with K&N Typhoon Intake, Ford Focus JBA Shorty Headers, and Custom 3 Piping for the Exhaust. After all that is complete Pulling motor for turbo. Hench for my cheap way to make it little bit louder. |

i wasn't aware that JBA made a header for the duratec. they had one for the zetec, but that's it.

I am running 2.5" mandrel bend straight pipe from flex pipe back and I don't notice any negative effect as in on the motor. I have a 4" angle cut chrome tip with it also. It is very loud and sounds mean as hell when you are full throttle but when you just rev it up a few rpms you do tend to get a lot of popping. My car is running rich so it gets more of that pop noise when you just rev it up and let it go back to idle. Interior noise drastically increases because of it. I have this setup on my 07 sedan.

And I have not been pulled over for violating the noise ordinance. Each state is different and here in Arizona the cops have to use a db meter to legally write the citation and Lucky for us they do not have such a device in their cars. Only device they have in their cars to measure anything is the device to measure window tint.

Try a Fwerk's ceramic coated header or a obx one. JBA only made a shorty zetec one.

It is not that loud at all because the second gens cat is built into the exhaust manifold. It definitely sounds better though. I did that back when I first had my focus modding ventures(=

Fswerks header and flex is the only ones I would suggest on a second gen!
