Back pressue is not a factor in direct injection engines, as fuel charge scavenging can not happen, becasue the fuel charge is delivered at full compresion.

No but you still need to clear the combustion chamber of burned gases.

Yes, that's why we have such things as cam overlap. Back pressure would prevent some gasses from leaving the chamber.n

Remember these motors run 12:1, they are probably pretty good at clearing the cylinder anyway.

Has anyone seen more than 2-3 mpg increase with the exhaust?? Not that it should but who knows its possible to get 4-5 with an intake and exhaust system right?

With the Magnaflow and the Steeda CAI I haven't noticed a change in my mpg at all. It's still roughly 34mpg in the city with winter tires and 32mpg with summer.

You want too still cram as much air as possible with a scavenging affect. Air is still a factor in power making.

Right, and having less exhaust backpressure, by removing restrictions in the exhaust system will increase this effect to a point.

People are getting all bent outa shape about loosing back pressure in these Focus motors, it's not as much of a foctor as say a Honda. Opening up the exhaust systems on these new Focus engines is really going to wake them up.
