Between weight and added drivetrain loss it might not be as fun car to drive. Like a 4 cyc man of the SHO. I mean the SHO is an awesome car and I would love to own one but the think can't feel nimble shouldering 4000+ lbs.

If you check the specs between the WRX and the ST. The WRX is only 817 lbs heavier. And the WRX is certainly no slouch when it comes to handling,and performance.
Now I am not bashing the ST and promoting the WRX. I am just looking at from the eye of a consumer who would be looking at cars in this class.

Ford says the base curb weight of the SHO Taurus is 4,343 lbs. That is one beefy car full of "road hugging weight".

Really? "ONLY" 817 pounds heavier?

That's the equivalent of 4 adults and a weekend's worth of luggage for each.

The ST handles better than the WRX on a track and gets better MPG to boot. It's better looking, more comfortable, and better made.

If what you want is a loud, poorly built, inefficient car that feels like it weighs a million pounds, by all means get a WRX. It performs nearly as well as the Focus and you can drive it in snow.

817lb difference is WAY off. WRX is actually relatively light considering it's AWD. There's only about a 50lb difference in curb weight between an ST and WRX.

My mistake. I was looking at the gross weight, not curb weight. But we are both wrong. It is only a 15lbs. difference. ;-) :-D

Not to start a war here, or the risk of being flamed because I actually like the ST over the WRX. Judging by the threads on here about the different problems with the Focus, whether it be the auto trans., or electrical problems etc.
It does not instill confidence in me that the Focus is a reliable car. I would be a little nervous about my choice.
I will agree the WRX is not that efficient in the City for MPG's. But I would hardly call a Suburu a poorly built car. And I made a mistake on the weight, I read it wrong. Also, the fuel economy between the two is not that far off.

I would not exactly say the Focus is a reliable car. If I were in the market for a Focus, I would be a little nervous about my choice.

Only problem I have had with mine is the clunking noise from front suspension, otherwise NOT a prob at all, very reliable.

The problem is that WRXs get SUV mileage. If the new one is decent on fuel, (it's supposed to be) I'd consider it.

the newer subi's might be good, but I bought a 93 impreze FWD brand new and it was a turd, wouldn't keep an alignment and a few other issues. So dunno if I would even consider another.
