You need a little soundproofing without a doubt.

dynamat the back of the plate and inside the hatch. that will help, but may not get rid of it with just that. depends what your setup is, but it could take a lot to completely get rid of all the rattle in the hatch.

my plate doesnt rattle. dynamat the license plate and the hatch door. before dynamating the hatch door fill the door with expandle foam. pop the license plate lenses out and just let them hang there. put some tape over the opening for the lenses. this keeps the wires from getting stuck in the foam, might have to dig a little foam out to make the lights fit in. just make sure there is some room for the light so they dont get to close to the foam. open the hatch and take the plastic panel of the door. cover all the small holes with tape and then start filling the door with foam. once the door is full of foam use card board and tape the block of the holes and it will take a good amount of time to dry. with temps around 60-70 degress here it wook about 1-2days untill it was fully cured. i just simply stripped my hatch from all carpet and plastic trim peices and closed the door and drove around like that. after its fully dried you will need to clean up the extra that makes it way through an gaps you didnt see. adds weight and strengtens it. actualy got rear ended and no damage was done. got lucky and didnt even get a scratch.
takes about 2-3 cans and can be bought at walmart or any home repair store such as home depot or lowes

Dynamat is over-priced. There are cheaper more effective deadeners out there.
