Can AppLink launch applications on Android? I briefly tested with an Android phone (I have an iPhone). I just asked for "Mobile Apps" and then "Pandora", and it activated on the phone. However, I'm not sure whether Pandora was already running in the background.

Hi, bfitz -

Pandora must have been running in the background. AppLink will only work once the application has been opened and the proper commands have been given. For more info, check out:

Jaclyn, I don't know if this has been mentioned as a possible addition to the next update, but AppLink compatibility with Windows Phone 8 would be a very welcome addition.

i know this is a stupid question but what would be the consequences of trying to load the software from the 2013 focus into the 2012 would it totally brick Sync?

Short of how would you get a hold of the new firmware if they won't release it I can't see it harming things if the modules were the same, a dealer might be able to do so, but if the hardware is different it would either not work or would just brick it.

If some one knows how to get the firmware/ software off of the module in an installable form that isn't working for Ford it might be worth a shot, then again it may completely invalidate the warranty on the apim module itself (the brains of the sync system).

i had to take my car into service tomorrow and was thinking of talking to a few of the guys there since they seem pretty apt to telling it how it is and not just going its impossible was just a thought also i wonder if anyone with a 2013 could just pull the file from the syncmyride website like a restore point

I just logged into syncmyride to check if there was a place to download it for you guys. Under Sync Updates it just seems to give me a browser error even with one in the compatibility list. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to find a download link or anything.

For what it's worth, the version I have in my 2013 is Gen1 V4.1.2.F.


Also, a really dumb question... but what exactly is the point of applink? The music player on my phone already responds to the steering wheel/dash controls. Does applink give me some other functionality?

Applink allows you to connect to pandora and other specific applications running on your phone and fully control them via the car instead of just through the phone.

its more for apps like pandora, i heart radio, sync destinations, etc.
with the music apps it will show the songs and artists while being able to change the station with your voice instead of using the phone. The one thing I would like is the destinations app can be used to set up a route with your saved places instead of through the services menu which i think is a pain in the butt and only understands half of what I say...getting sick of yelling yes three times to acknowledge the city and state. anyways with applink you can use destination to start a route of find out if there is traffic on the way home without out going through extra steps or using your phone and i am all about being hands free
