Ford EcoMode Tips

I noticed tonight while scrolling through the Ford EcoMode section that it actually gave me a tip rather than the usual "Please consult your Ford manual for more fuel saving tips blah, blah, blah" and it actually said "56% of Trips are with Cold Engine" (or something along those lines).

But how much fuel are you going to use waiting for the engine to warm-up?

RAY: But with modern cars, all you're doing with a long warm-up is
wasting gas, increasing pollution, raising the temperature of the
planet and making yourself 10 minutes late for your chiropractic
appointment. The proper procedure is to start the car. If it starts
and keeps running, put it in Drive and go. Go gently (don't back out
of your driveway and floor it right onto a highway entrance ramp),
because you'll be warming it up during your first few minutes of
driving, but DO drive it.

TOM: If it's bitterly cold out, like 10 or 20 degrees Fahrenheit or
lower, you can let it warm up for a minute or two to allow the oil to
thin out a bit and circulate completely. But other than that, if it
runs, driving it gently is the best way to warm it up.

Yes but if you let it run constantly the catalytic converters won't have to warm to operating temp

You may have to let it run awhile to defrost the windows........

hmmm I don't notice this on mine... mine still says "consult FOrd Manual..."

Same here. Perhaps it's because we have the original BCM? Or we don't have high enough percentages?

Its most likely that you don't have a sufficiently high percentage of trips driven on a cold engine, the way to confirm that would be to go into the test mode, and under the ecoguide data scroll left or right until you get to the cold engine score, which has a number from 0-5 as well as a percentage from 0-100 to display the percent of trips on a cold engine.
