Sounds right

Sounds like what I'm looking for. I'm just looking for a little better performance. Where is a good place to look for used SVT headers? Also, I hear on this forum that I would need to replace other parts to fit the SVT header in my ZX3.

Would I get the benefit of the SVT headers without replacing the exhaust? Or vice versa? Also, any point in an upgraded cat-back exhaust or is that just going to change the sound only.

I'll check out your link for a tuner, which is probably where I'll start. That was the only mod I did to my 07 WRX and it made all the difference.

What's your feeling about performance clutch? I haven't heard anyone mention that upgrade on this site. The factory clutch seems adequate but I'm just curious.

Thanks.

This will net you an honest 20HP+ to the wheels and feel like a new car

Clutches, if you need to replace yours then go with a stage 1 or something that is very still streetable. the factory clutch is not bad and will hold up under most driving conditions going NA. when you get into the 175Whp i think a stage 1 is needed. over 225ish a stage 2 over 275 a stage 3 and more than 350 you need one of the crazy puck clutches.

Your car first off the lot has about 130hp. With I think dynos showing about 110 or so at the wheels. You will not be able to double the HP on the Zetec going N/A. Their are some VERY extreme cases where you can hit about the 200 or a little over. but this requires more money then if you were going to go turbo.

It sounds like you just want a little more umph and some more fun. Get a Tune from Tom, that way when you add more bolt ons you can give him a call and will tweak as needed. Then get a SVT exhaust header. You do need the SVT Cat, and Flex pipe. the "cat back" at that point is the same. you will see improvements if you go to a 2.5" cat back vs the stock exhaust. most people will say 2.5" on a N/A Zetec sounds the best and if you go to 3" it does not sound as good unless you have the turbo.

Trubendz and other sites are able to offer good fitting cat back exhausts with good mufflers for good prices.

I might be selling my SVT Cat and Flex in a little bit to get funding to finish my build. (also wanted to go to a high flow and 3" flex). You also need the SVT dip stick. can be had at your dealer for $10-$15 IIRC. You can also bend your PS line or get a SVT PS line I think about $50 from the dealer. the other thing you have to think about is emissions on this. the SVT exhaust header did not have EGR hookup since the SVT did not have an EGR system. The tune can delete this, but depending on whats done with your states emissions may not be enough. I have just had a bung welded in so I can be compliant... when I need to be.

Studies have also shown the stock SVT intake (not the manifold) box and snorkel w/ a K&N drop in filter show to have equal gains as any cold air or short ram air intake. you can find those being sold on our board in the for sale section.

You can alsow change out the suspension for a FRPP that only runs a few hundred dollars I think now days. will drop you a little, give you a firmer suspension, but will not kill your back or ride quality. Will make it more quick to respond to your steering.
