X2, stat sticking open has nothing to do with overheating..............but will kill heat like nobody's business.

Many of the too much/too little heat issues seen here are from the "blend door" sticking or it's actuator not working...
Instead of a valve to turn the hot coolant to the heater core on & off, most newer vehicles including the Focus just redirect the air between cold & hot (whether it comes in through the heater core or the A/C side). Haven't played with this issue myself yet, but I've heard you can see the actuator & lever through the glove box area when you open that up all the way. Look for a lever & actuator on the air duct toward the middle of the car - you MAY see it try to move when you change temperature settings if it's just stuck and the actuator is trying to work. Some folks have reported having luck just freeing it by hand without it sticking on them again.... Luck with yours! |

Yes, my door shaft hole is stripped and I'm not pulling that box...........I simply made up a hook to open glovebox and hook the door to move it whichever way I need. Takes maybe 5 seconds to move it. The door actuator motor actually works fine, it just won't engage the door. For full heat you want the holes in the grille you see looking behind glovebox CLOSED. You want them open for max a/c.
