Ford stopped using Shelby after the 1968 model year. They thought they could do it better and in house. Thats why the 69 GT500 was a gutted wonder loaded with power robbing options.

Shelby sued Ford over the use of the Cobra name and they settled out of court.

Shelby had a good working relationship with Iacoca and thats why Chrysler asked him to add power to the Charger, Omni and others to boost Chryslers image coming out of backruptcy.

I've always loved the Mustang II's. I had a 2.3 that would walk all over the Shelby Chryslers. Fun little cars when done right.

They were built like tanks. Kept breaking the main leaf on the rear spring from the torque though, till I had a custom set built with an extra leaf that wrapped the main.

Handling has been improved from the stock Focus ST via Ford Racing suspension parts to lower the car, along with new wheels and tires for better grip. Shelby spec brakes provide the stopping power, while the Shelby/Borla exhaust gives the Focus ST a distinct sound.

Functional hood vents, hydro-carbon grille inserts front and rear, Shelby lettering and a rear hydro-carbon spoiler mark the exterior. Buyers can choose between three graphics packages -- traditional Shelby stripes, Shelby checkered-flag splash or competition graphics.

Inside, the car has a custom Shelby-branded interior with a Shelby shifter and Shelby CSM badge.

The Shelby package adds $14,995 to whatever you pay for a Ford Focus ST. Shelby American will limit production to 500 units per year.

Well if that is it remove the side decals and carry on. Quesion is for $15k can u mod a st yourself and have it perform better than the shelby? Prob yes... So long warranty though

That's true but out the door, you're looking at a $40k focus. There is a lot of nice cars at that price range. Just saying. I'm still a focus aficionado.

shelby american is getting back into the pocket rocket business with the debut of the shelby focus st at the detroit auto show. The move recalls the era when carroll shelby turned dodge subcompacts into tire-smoking machines.

Shelby also used the detroit show to unveil a wide-body version of the gt500 super snake wide body.

Shelby and his team modified the 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder to produce 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the car from 0-60 mph in a quick-for-the-time 6.5 seconds. According to the SVTUSA fan site, the Shelby package adds a stiffer Ford Racing suspension, larger brakes, custom wheels, a Borla exhaust, Shelby interior accouterments, and various exterior tweaks including functional hood vents.

But here's the kicker: the power output remains at the stock level of 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. SVTUSA says Shelby "is currently developing an optional performance tune expected to significantly increase horsepower." But it's not on this thing.

Jalopnik is saying the power output is the same! what the hell!?
