HID on third gen focus, WITH DRL

I have realised that many people are still having problems when it's question of DRL + HID with the third generation focus model..

If you have any problem, I can send you a wire diagram showing how to connect all those things !

You'll need
- 1 Standard HID conversion kit 35 w, 12 volt, (bought from vvme.com)
- 1 universal relay harness (bought from vvme.com)
- 2 x resistor of 50 watts 6 Ohms
- couple of extra wires to be able to connect all this (some speaker wires can do just fine... but it isn't the best quality I recommand.. I did use wires from my old car trailer plug 16 gauge)
- Some dexterity to connect wires.. (quick connector or weld skills)
- Please don't forget that resistant gets very hot, put them on a metal surface¸ away from other wires... (I have pictures of good positionning as well)

I have had this set-up for 1 year now, and everything works perfectly. I even added a switch in my wire system so that i can close my low beams, without getting any errors in my car...

This is the first mod i did. If you dont have the relay harness, your display will actually tell you "headlight fault" and they wont work. I am running 35 watt ballasts, with 6k beams. let me go take some pics right now and post them.

actually, relay harness only allow you to avoid flickering, because mk3 focus receives 9 volt power on DRL..
the ressitor are the things that make you avoid the "dipped beam bulb" - the error
With those resistor in parallele, your computer thinks you have incandescent bulb of 55 watt (original) plugged to it.. relay harness alone isn't enough to imitate the incandescent bulb resistance

Thank you for correcting that. That is what i meant, i was just beyond tired. I had to tuck the resistors away because they get super hott, but they are all a part of that harness. I picked it up on ebay for 13 bucks, and it was the exact same one that my shop uses and sells for 85 :/

Haha no problem!
wow that's expensive ! 85 $ !!

I bought mine at addison, my local electric supply shop for 1,85$ ea. resistor :)

I was just turned on to that by a friend of mine who did his retrofit a little while ago. I got in touch with Andrew, and am having a bit of back-and-forth with him discussing different options.

Canadian cars come standard with DRLs (law since '89) and usually it's the highbeams on reduced power. My car's in the shop at the moment 'cause I got rear-ended by an X5 two days ago, so I can't just walk out and check--is it the same for the Focus? If not, I may ask my buddy to see if he can rewire the fogs to just always be on whenever the car's running.
