No offense to the OP but why not just weld it back together, wouldn't that have been easier? I may be wrong but figured I would ask.

The shifter base is made of plastic. I'm not sure how it would be possible to weld it.

I think this is a great write up! Great fix for guys who are strapped for cash. I may add my 2 cents tho, instead of using bolts and nuts, may i suggest using rivets instead? less chance of them coming out and in my experience, stronger and more rigid...
