2014 Corvette

Well, if you look back at previous generations of Corvette, they aren't so obviously copying the looks of other cars. Some generations are uniquely original, such as the C2 Sting Ray. The Corvette had a pretty distinct style of it's own over the years (for better or worse). This looks like Ferrari/Viper front, Nissan GT-R side profile, and silly-putty-stretched Camaro rear.

No i'm not talking corvette, more things like. The El Camino, the grand sport fender stripes, either the olds or buick 350 had a ford 289 crank, (no offence) the new GTO and new regal are rebodied Holdens. Ect, ect.

Oh you mean generally speaking, as in the whole industry. Yeah. I can't argue that point.

This thread is about the new corvette, so you can imagine how we might make that mistake. The El Camino was a Ranchero copy. The 61 Mercury Comet was a Valiant copy. So what? You are very wrong about crankshafts though. Buick 350: 3.80 x 3.85; Olds 350: 4.057x 3.385; Pontiac 350 (355) 3.875 x 3.75, and the Ford 289: 4.00 x 2.87. That's just examining bore and stroke and not getting into centerline bore spacing, crank journal dimensions, and I digress.

I appreciate the newsflash on the GTO, but this is supposed to be about the Corvette.

I understood the convo confusion and I explained myself. We understood and we moved on.

I don't remember what buick or olds V8 engine had a ford crank but one did. I gave my my .02 on the corvette already in the previous post, name a thread that doesn't get a little off subject. I was done with it a half hour ago.

The styling doesn't really excite me much, but one thing that I have noticed over the years about new cars with styling that I don't care for initially, often grow on me until I really like them.

I thought the 2000 Focus ZX3 was ugly when it came out.
The 57 Chevy didn't sell well because it was too ugly.
There are a whole lot more examples in between.

If I dare mention something besides a corvette. Yea a lot of cars I say who cares what it looks like it's a monster. Like the Raptor for example. But I hated the C5 with a passion still do.

The thing I've always liked about past corvettes is that their looks did not define their performance, a bit like the old e-type in some ways.

Yes they look sporty and yes they look fast, but the party-piece is that the cars were actually a lot faster and a lot sportier than they looked!
(It's one of the reasons I really don't like the ZR1. Its too gimmicky)

This just looks like a Ferarri 599 that's been to the gym. I expect it to be fast and carve corners very well. I do not expect to be impressed in the very least.

You think part of that might be down to how good the C6 was? Even though the C5 was pretty good, the C6 didn't seem like a big deal to most people until the Z06 came out...

Maybe it's lost some of its surprise because its immediate predecessors were good cars. As opposed to the C4 and C3, which were supposedly garbage...
