Ya! It passes a logic 'truth' table (so to speak). No wallet, 'no' drive. Have wallet, 'yes' drive. loose wallet=loose key, 'no' drive. (no PATS). (If I try to drive without my wallet, well, it's like not doing the seat belt. It's just 'not right'). Anyway. I thought it would be worth mentioning as it caught me by surprise.

I love the "oh shit" feeling you get when something like that happens

my Buick had a spare set of keys under the radiator support. someone welded a threaded rod and used a wingnut to keep them on there. youd never know unless you were directly under the car

My 2000 focus se loves to lock itself when it's cold out. I got the car in August of 2011 at a local garage/used dealer and once winter rolled around I was at country fair on my way to school and the keys got locked in the car while it was running. I thought maybe I hit the button but it happened several times last winter as well, a few times I actually heard them lock as I walked away from the car even while my keys were left in the ignition. I don't know why it does that, but it's really frustrating to me, needless to say I now have a spare door key in my wallet and it's come in handy so many times.

My old Mitsubishi came with a plastic credit card that had a key cut in the middle of it, so you could fold the key out and open the door. Worked well enough for an emergency. Most cars I've owned come with at least one simple, flat, key (as opposed to the kind with a blob of plastic on the end), and many wallets have little keyholders in them. Definitely worth carrying around.

you old car owners... should have tried holding the handle open, locking the door and shutting it. that would keep it locked.

I do this every time. I got locked out of my old Metro and it was left running for over an hour. It was the morning after i got it, and all 3 spare keys were still in it. So i actually had a spare made a couple weeks ago.

A few years ago I was out with GF and she was picky on hot cars... I live in Vegas, so I thought i would remove the Remote and lock the car with my key running the AC..

if you LOCK the car and keep it running to keep it cool or warm and think the Key FOB will open it it wont, you will be locked out since the remote will not function with key in ignition.

POP-A-LOCK $50

lol

Stupid kids, get off my lawn!! I owned those cars for years, you don't think I got a laugh every time some genius said "I bet I can get it to lock", and then tried just that. I should've bet them $20. You can lock it like that, but when you shut the door, it popped up, and the door was unlocked.

OH... BTW all Focis will lock the car 30 seconds after you unlock the doors if you don't enter the car. That is for the times when you accidentally press your key fob while walking away from the car. So if you're warming your car up, close the door, then hit unlock to be safe and sure it's unlocked- the car will lock itself in 30 sec.

Try it! Without the car running or the keys in it- of course. It might be 45 sec.

I wish I could warm my 4Runner up and lock it but if the key is in the ignition and doesn't even have to be running it will pop the driver's door lock if you try to lock it even using the fob.
