Access Through Dash under Center Speaker

I have a Scanguage that I'd like to mount atop the dash just in front of the center speaker. I'd like to route the cable up through the center speaker cavity to the back of the scanguage. When I pull the speaker out and look inside it appears there is no access below it. I could drill through the plastic shell underneath if I thought I would achieve access.

Has anybody messed around in there yet and know if what I want is possible?

I would like to know more about that speaker area also. That is where the auxiliary gauges sit on the ST. I'm interested in how feasible it is to put that gauge pod in a regular Focus and insert appropriate gauges.
