It took about 3000 miles before I started to see #'s over 30MPG. After I got north of 5000, the mileage improved to the mid 30's. Obviously how one drives greatly factors in. Took a road trip to NY in our Odyessy this summer. When I drove I was averaging 26-27 MPG. When my wife drove, that average per tank dropped to 24. Go figure.

Just did another road trip with the new 2012 SEL hatchback with the 6-speed dual clutch transmission with the whole family. This time, I had the K&N drop in filter to compare from stock on the virtually the same route of 222 miles. My previous best highway mileage was 38.0 mpg. With the K&N, I was able to get to 40.0 mpg and but at times I did see the avg. fuel meter go as high as 42.2 mpg. Again, I had the cruise control set at 65 mph for most of the trip. So I feel confident to say that using the K&N will give a realistic 2 mpg increase in fuel economy over the stock air filter and maybe as high as 4 mpg increase with very conservative driving as I experienced.

If I keep my foot out of it, I've seen as much as a 3mpg increase with 91. I went 91 after about five tanks and haven't looked back. For me it's not about the mpg's... The car runs stronger and smoother with the 91.

I was (until my undertray/engine shield broke) getting about 43.5MPG on the highway doing 100KPH (60 mph) . This is with a 5spd manual. The manual really needs a 6th gear or a longer/taller overdrive gear.
The MPG with a taller overdrive gear would be much higher as it would allow for a higher speed@lower rpm. Make absolutely no sense when EPA and CAFE requirements are screaming for higher fuel economy. |
