About the "bulb out" message: i'm talking with a guy who made the Mk3 Batman Edition (the 2nd MK3 retrofitted i'v ever seen). He's russian and states that it is possible to permanently disable the warning by changing firmware settings. service access is needed with hardware and software to change this setting:
01 halogen light without manual leveling 02 halogen light with manual leveling (default for halogen) 03 hid with auto leveling 04 halogen afs with manuel leveling 05 hid with manual leveling 09 afs hid with auto leveling I think he mean setting from 02 to 05.. Here the thread: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...s-MK3-retrofit starting from post #7 and here the Batman edition: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?48611 Now, i've downloaded the software he recommends but it's in russian language! So I cant verify, but the idea that the warning may be disabled via software (or through a workshop ford?) makes unnecessary the use of resistors, capacitors or CANBUS systems... not a small thing |

However, I disagree that connecting some extra plug-n-play wiring is more of a hassle than all that. Guess it's a personal preference thing though. |

I gotta say... that Batman retrofit looks pretty damn good! LOL
However, I also noticed that he didn't actually bake the headlight housing to separate it - he just CUT around the black plastic part while the Clear lens is still attached via the factory glue/seal... I'd probably be willing to try something like this but on a cheap pair of headlights from the Junkyard....

If I can find a dirt cheap pair of headlights to work with, I may be installing some projectors and painting the housing black, basically the batman one without the LEDs but I won't cut up my good stock headlights.
Has anyone used theretrofitsource.com on here or is it cheaper to buy the parts separate elsewhere? |

Just to make sure, parts I need are
Extra headlights. Mini h1 projectors Shrouds Slim ballasts H1 bulbs And what's the best way to seal it up? I've had issues with that before. |

On this car you need also the resistors or CAN-BUS wire harness.
Anyway, i'm going to cut the headlight, a spare pair, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSD-eW6tEGk and melt plastic back like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQpr4Umy8CI in addition, i'm going to seal and add strenght on the joint with something like this: http://www.stealth316.com/2-dp8005.htm a good one on PP plastic. |

I must admit... the option to use the Soldering Knife to cut through the black housing and open it up doesn't seem too bad at all... Of course it looks easier on screen than when you're doing it yourself... but I guess the most important part will be to seal it back together as nice and tight and sturdy as possible. This seems to be a faster way to get access to the inside of the housing... I might be up for the challenge again... :)
