Mounting Roof Box & Bike carrier
I am looking to get a roof box for my mk1 Focus hatchback. I also want to be able to mount a bike next to the box on the roof but am not sure what maximum width of roof box would allow me to do this.
Can anyone advise as to what maximum roof box width or recommend specific roof box models that would suit my needs? Many thanks, John |

what i did with my 2011 was a yakima roof rack system. yakima calls for 48" cross bars for the ford focus. i went with 58" bars so i coul put my bikes closer to the edge and still fit a decent sized box or a couple of kayaks in the middle. i got the idea from my brother who did the same thing on his VW, what are you looking at using for your mounting system? |

Currently we're just looking for a roof box to use when we go camping. We've got 2 young kids and are anticipating cycling holidays in the future so want space to mount a bike. We already have a rear mount bike rack to take 3 bikes so being able to store one on top too is important.
For the mounting system I was going to get some cheap bars that would do the job of mounting the box/cycle rack well enough. I'm open to advice as to what to go for, it's not an area I've looked into previously. |

on craigslist UK is this set up. http://london.craigslist.co.uk/cto/3447603530.html it allows for universal mounting and crossbars. i like these systems because they have a lot of capability to move from vehicle to vehicle and a wide variety of add on's. i bought my entire yakima system for 100 dollars US. and it serves me and my family well. plus when i trade the focus in 5-6 years then i will just move the rack system to the next car.
