sputtering and misfire
hello i drive a 2000 zx3 2.0 dohc zetec 5sp. ive had it for 2 years with very little problems now all of a sudden under heavy acceleration it sort of chugs every time i go to get on it and it usually happens in between the rpms of 2500 to 5000k if it does it then once i get into the higher rpms it goes away it also does it at idle if i give the car more than 1/2 throttle
i have already replaced the plugs and wires and the coil pack i am going to clean the throttle body and mass air flow senser any ideas on what could cause this problem thanks jordan |

Welcome to the forum
Sounds like a fuel pressure issue to me. Your symptoms are very similar to the fuel pump going out. Very common on that model year. They redesigned the fuel pump and fuel pump canister after the 01' model year. You can try replacing the fuel filter sometimes that helps. Others may have more suggestions just need to wait for them to chime in

Hmm, check the coil pack wiring pigtail. The wires are known to get pulled out.

Yeah, if the coil pack is new check where the wiring go into the plug. They get pulled out, you can try pushing them back in but most of the time a replacement is better.

To the OP: This wasn't the cause of the problem I had (I had a bad coil), but when replacing the coil, I inspected the pig tail, and saw that the insulation around the wires leading into the pigtail was cracked.
