SVT metal shifter base into ZX3 issues

So I recently did the mod. and I can't figure out how it's supposed to function properly. The Zetec base has the return spring to pull the shifter back to the center neutral when you wiggle it back and forth. As it sits now my SVT metal tower does not have the shifter spring back to the center, it just stays on either side.

I know lots of people have done this swap and I've searched but I can't find anything.

And yes I did swap my ZX3 shifter rod into the base so the one cable has the proper orientation.

Someone said I need to swap the spring over to the SVT base but there is no provision for the spring to stop on the SVT base like there is on the Zetec (a little black rectangle made as part of the base that sticks out on the passenger side to stop the spring both ways).

Thanks!

I would just drill a hole where the spring needs a stop and then put a bolt through it with two nuts on the end of the bolt and then wedge the long end of the spring between the two nuts so it stays there. Other people have said they just leave the shifter to flop around. I just put metal plates on my plastic shifter that broke to reinforce it.
