I know my experience was if you have the domes set to " off" and press it again while the door is open it will not come on . You have to close all doors and when you reopen it they will come one . Hope that makes sense ,sitting on the toilet typing this on my phone !
I suspect this is probably it. After work tonight, I did a few tests with hitting buttons while the door was in either open or closed (but never both at the same time). I found that there is a correlation between future dome lamp behavior and the state the door was in when pressing the buttons. For the rest of the evening, the dome light behaved as expected - it turned on when unlocked the car using the fob, and turned off after all doors were closed.

I haven't messed with any of the dome buttons since the dome light did come on last evening. So by the above poster's theory, If I don't touch those buttons again, my domelight should come on every time from now on.

Okay, I just went out to my car. It's still dark this morning. I pressed the unlock button once. Nothing. I pressed it again. Nothing. I relocked it. I pressed the unlock button again, and then twice, but a little bit faster this time. The dome light came on. I relocked it. Then I pushed the unlock button again once. The dome light came on.

WTH!

Seriously, I don't need to be playing musical car-unlock just so that I can get the lights to come on (or not) so that I can feel safe getting inside (or not).

Somebody has to fix this thing. I work too many late nights.

And so the universe seems to be on my side tonight. When I unlocked my car at 9 PM, the dome light came on. After pushing the unlock button only once.

Who knows what's going on. I wonder could it have anything to do with opening the hatch? I did open the hatch this morning.

This is crazy that I'm trying to distill down every interaction with this car to make sense of something that doesn't make any sense.

More weirdness here. Last night, went to my car, hit the open button twice - no lights. Opened hatch, no lights. Closed hatch, then went to enter car, no lights. I didn't touch any buttons or anything. Drove home, opened door to get out, no lights. Locked car via fob. Went back out later to go to the Y, pressed button twice, lights came on. They stayed on when I opened the door, faded out when I closed the door.

There doesn't appear to be any consistency in how this works.

Mine were off in the morning but when I turned it off at school they came on. I left it outside.

My dome light is inscrutable as well.

Forty years ago, a child could understand the dome light. In today's world we might need to form a support group.

Sent from my iPhone using FF Mobile. Typos and terseness are to be expected.

this is annoying as shit. My kid needs the light on to buckle himself in. There has to be some rhyme or reason to how that damn thing works.

Mood roof or no moon roof?

I have mine set to only have the footwells light up... I personally like not having my entire car light up when I unlock it, but that's my personal preference and beside the point.

I have a moon roof and my light controls are above my head and seem to work as they should, but I now wonder if its an issue with cars without a moon roof possibly...?

In my car you either set the button to on or off to turn on with the doors/entry... And then there's a second button just for my side done light.

No moon roof. There's an on/off button and a "force off" button.

I've discovered that if I unlock the car, then lock again, then unlock again, the dome light comes on. Stupid, but it's been working.
