I have ported , flowed ,dynoed more ported Zetec head then any other company out there and I havent seen it , can anyone show me a dyno with a ported head vs a stock head with no other mods making enough HP to make it worth 1100.00 to add , Please remember I have a in house superflow flow bench , Dyno jet dyno and have ported many heads in my life time , the Zetec just does not respond well to port work

gun_runner , you may disagree with that and I am not trying to be an a$$ here but this isnt a dodge and once you get playing with a Zetec head on the flow bench and dyno you will understand why I am saying what I am saying

Tom

I failed to mention in my first post, but cams would also be needed to see a benefit from porting.

Without cams there is really no point in porting.

Thank you Tom.

I think what Tom's saying is that while without other mods porting may be of value on other motors, it is not of much value on the Zetec. The key is what other mods are involved.

I think I came across the wrong way, and read what you were saying the wrong way.. I do agree with you that porting the head on a stock motor is pretty much useless. It would make it capable to flow more air, but would be bottlenecked by stock components. I do plan on upgrading those components in the future, so I was thinking why not do a little work while I'm in there anyways so that as I upgrade, the benefits will just be that much better.

I do apologize for stepping on a few toes, but as I said before, I was a little disappointed at the lack of zombie killing that I didn't get to do yesterday. The Benelli and .454 have been itchin to come out of the safe to play.

honestly even on a modded engine a head isnt necessary or worth it for the price of one. it can help with flow sure but nothing that a couple more lb of boost wouldnt add. people have made over 500hp on the stock head. i used an extremely ported head and custom turbo cams with my build and if i could do it again i would just use stock head and cams and spend the money else where

I do feel porting doesn't hurt, but mainly the pump in power from head work is from the compression bump, more squish equals bigger bangs.

For my car right now all I have left do is head work. I know I'll get a substantial increase in power from it as well. A full bolt on car can only pull roughly 140whp where as one with a P&P head can pull up to 160-170 whp. Most of the gain is from the head work. Though if you looking for any serious power you need boost, there is no way around that. I don't know where all this no porting the head came talk came from unless we're talking boost? If going n/a it's really not cost effective to go that route cause in the end you would have spent just as much if not more than you would have for boost and end up with 100 less hp and way less tq.
