Probably too far for you, but I've used Star Ford in Glendale, so far for only 2 oil changes, but, from listening to the conversations there, they sound like they know what they are doing. I've noticed 2 CHP cars in there also... they have delivered the car in less time than they promised both times.

I wouldn't judge the competency of the mechanics based on the size of the shop, the absolute best mechanics I have known all work in small shops and would never tolerate the BS you get at a large dealership.

Good to know. I will definitely keep them in mind when it comes to trans. work.

That's true. I agree. However it's also true that many good mechanics leave the smaller shops in favor of the large volume dealers because they can afford to pay their mechanics higher wages. The opportunities to earn bonuses and other incentives can make a huge difference on their income, especially if it's tied to volume (cars serviced).

My distrust of McCoy Mills isn't based merely on the size of their dealership, but rather I find them difficult to work with. As it is they don't appear to have a full-time transmission person who works their either, as I was told that I'd need to schedule an appointment so that they could arrange for "their transmission person" to be there at the dealer to work on my car. Does this guy work someplace else and only works at the Ford dealers "as needed" or what? I don't know. Suffic to say, there have been other things said or done that has led to my overall uneasy feeling about them handling a major repair. I may use them for oil changes, but that's probably about it.

Of Course, everyone who's been around knows to avoid Worthington in Long Beach. I have had issues with Cerritos too - screwed me out of a working radio years ago (gee, tough that your six month old car stereo doesn't work right - go buy one at Frys').

Since then I go to what is now Caruso Ford on Cherry in Long Beach. Was named Pacific Ford until last month.

I avoided Galpin like the plague... A couple bad near buying experiences and having a roommate that worked at G.A.S. for awhile, they'll never get my business
