I go without. Seems perfectly comfortable to me.

I try to keep both hands on the wheel, or occasionally rest one on my lap.

I took the armrest out of my kids car this past weekend. I found it obtrusive when shifting and I'm 6'3", so it'll definitely be in the way as my teenagers learn the manual tranny.

We are going to try our hand at a little fiberglass and make a small insert which we can cover with some foam and gray cloth to match the interior. Will be a little padded stub if you will.

I took mine off last weekend and I like it a lot better. I'm over 6' and I didn't have problems with shifting, but the parking brake was a real pain to use with the armrest. Plus the latch was broken anyways. I'm happy with no arm rest overall, usually both hands are on the wheel or one is shifting or about to shift again.

Exactly. I put mine back on (when i still had the armrest console) after having it off for a while, and i wondered how i lived with it.

People say it sucks when you go on long drives without it, but i drove 7+ hours last weekend and didn't have any problem without it.

I know people that pay up to $200 to add armrests to their cars. I wouldn't part with mine.

It's not armrests in general, it's just the one in the Mk1 focus isn't placed very well for those with a manual transmission.

This is true^ Comfy, yes, but very tall. It's also comfy without because of shifting.
