Manual Gear lever problems
My car has just thrown the middle finger at me by shape of gear lever. I was downshifting (normally) to turn into my neighborhood. 3rd to 2nd, do it all the time. however when I did it a loud popping sound happened. I thought it was just my phone hitting the silver plastic but a couple of hours later I go back in the car and notice it won't center itself back in neutral. I've read on here that it was a spring issue, but everything seems to be in place. Kinda hoping someone could chime in. Everyone around here seems to own an auto focus (well except my ex
 ) so i can't really look at what's exactly wrong. The car gets into gear fine, it just won't center.

Pop off your boot( clipped in) and make sure both links are properly seated. Also check for any cracks on the plastic shifter base.

yes unscrew your shifter then lift the boot up at the end closest to you the front will then slide out. pull it off the shifter. there are to points where the cables attach to the shifter. you will see coil springs with the ends sandwiching the one on the right this is the centering spring. as you move the shifter you are lifting or pushing on the spring. it sounds like one of the fingers on the spring has broken or that the entire spring has detached from the shifter mechanism.

I've been having problems with mine for about 20k now. Dealer just keeps saying it drives fine. It just doesn't go into 2nd gear right.

is the boot loose all the way around the shifter? one time mine tried to eat it and now i have a hole.
