I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with the brake light switch going out and the connectors melting? When this happens my brake lights go out and the car will not move out of park until i keep pumping the brakes and trying to get it out of park. Then when in drive no brake lights. I have replaces 3 brake light switches all the times the wires are melted/burnt. I would like any input on this if possible. The first time it happened the brake lights were stuck on for all day without me knowing. The second and third time no brake lights and wouldn't go out of park. I have 200,000 miles runs great just need to figure this out. Thank you!

Is it the brake switch on the master cylinder or under the dash?
If its the one on the master I'm pretty sure it was covered under that massive recal a few years ago. Also, why did you get an auto mustang GT?

Don't have an answer for the O.P. as to WHY the brake switch circuit ends up carrying too much current & melts the switch (other than the obvious of a possible intermittent short to ground)
As to why someone might move it, being a "tech." question I'm sure they felt it would fit better in tech. chat than general chat. |

Maybe there's too much resistance somewhere, possibly a bad ground. Take a look at your tail light sockets and wiring for corrosion.

Seems to me this is a thread that should be on BOF and the OP did the sync thing and clicked wrong.
Doesn't make sense that a Mustang owner would join a Focus site for help; unless it's in error. |
