Timing belts should be changed between 60k and 120k miles, but I've known cases where the belt has gone for 150k. In the SVT, that would be dangerous because it is an interference engine meaning that if the timing belt breaks, pistons will contact the valves, and the engine will be destroyed. That is why this is important. On an SVT, nobody should go over 100k without a new timing belt, and the belt should be inspected every 25k thereafter.

im gonna be gettin a fresh timing belt thanks for the info guys. whether i or a shop does it is still a question. do you have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump?
