I mentioned earlier in the thread I was hearing the same thing on mine. Don't get me wrong - I'm now convinced it is "normal" for this vehicle with this tranny. My initial concern was that it might not be, and obviously the vast majority of Focus owners out there don't follow Focus Fanatics, and are wondering what the heck it is, leading to unnecessary service calls, etc. If it is simply the computer recycling the command until it goes back to sleep, it seems like it would be a relatively easy software tweak to "fix" it, saving the aformentioned unnecessary service appointments and customer angst. But then, I don't write code, so maybe it's not that simple. Still, it certainly does seem like something Ford should get out in front of.

For most the issue is that it is annoying. The damage that is being done is the needless excessive wear of the moving parts affected

Be careful how hard you beat this horse. The "regulars" 'round these parts get mighty annoyed at us "newbies" for suggesting that the noise might actually indicate a problem.

What is annoying is when people say it is a problem, but offer nothing to back up the assertion. If anyone can demonstrate that the car is being damaged, I think all of us will expect Ford to correct the problem. However, people insisting that there be a recall just becuase the noise offends them, well . . . That is something different.

Ford provided an explanation of the noise. If anyone disagrees with Ford's explanation, then the ball is in their court to prove why it is wrong or BS. You cannot expect Ford to prove a negative - that the noise is not causing damage - you must prove that it is. If anyone does that, I (and I am sure everyone else) will back them up 100% on insisting Ford do something.

I'm not sure if it's a problem or not, but it is curious because there is no such noise on my satisfactorily operating DCT equipped 2012 SEL - and never has been. It would be interesting to learn that there have been changes to the way the 2013 works vs the 2012 and why Ford felt that such an improvement (if there is one) was necessary.

If it is different then I agree it would be interesting and maybe useful to know why. However, I think it would be a mistake to assume that it is something bad or harmful just because it is different.

That's the whole gist of the problem right there. They HAVEN'T provided an explanation. Ford says "The shift motors are waking up, don't worry about it".

Apparently my BS sensor is a little more sensitive than yours, but that is not a sufficient explanation.

No, I've never heard anything like it. When I get in, unlock the doors, whatever - complete silence.

Yes. it does. I have a 2013 hatch with the 6 spd auto. Until somebody can show me an example of it hurting the car by actually wearing out a part, etc., I am not worrying about it. This car does a lot of things different than my old cars . . . so what?

Look, Ford says it is the shift motors. If you don't buy that explanation, then show us some proof the noise is coming from something else. I for one am open to another explanation, but it has to be more than just saying "i don't buy it". Or, if you agree it is the shift motors, but you think it is harming them, then show us anything to support that.
