Well 90% of the build thread ive seen, in any forum include: tints, jdm yellow fog lights, blacked out emblems, painted engine covers and crap like that, then they list all these in their sigs as mods.... Wtf?

Was it on the car when the car was new? No. Then it's a mod.

I have yellow projector fogs in my GTI. Yup. That's a mod.

Has anyone considered that some people modify cars solely to impress others? These people DO satisfy their own goal - it just so happens that this goal involves high media exposure and depends on public opinion. This is why show cars exist. The owners build them in order to be judged and hopefully be declared the best - that's the whole point. These cars and their owners are not "lame as hell" just because their objectives differ from your own.

I have one. It's 19 PAGES long. And my only mod is the projector fogs, yellow bulbs, and 5 small pieces of plaid vinyl.

...if that says anything about mod threads today, I dunno what does.

Hell, that thing would take me a day to list the mods done on it over the years, too bad that thread disappeared. Maybe I'll Have to start a new one... then again there will always be one ass saying "you should have done this"...

To me....the last VW that was built was in 1965.( The Beatle). After that, the quality and dependability went south. Really junk today! Over sold on the tube. POC to work on.

Yup. My GTI is junk. Overpriced too.

Actually...it's the most fun car I've ever owned. It's not the fastest, not the lowest, not the best handling, doesn't get the best MPG, but it is the most fun.

My old MazdaSpeed3 would own this little GTI in any race.
My lowered Fusion would handle circles around this 4x4 GTI
My Fusion got 38 MPG on the highway at 70 MPH. The GTI only gets ~31.


...but still, even with all of that, the GTI is still my favorite car that I've ever owned. And that says something...

My old 914 Porshe was the best handling,funest,girl picking up,ugliest car I ever owned but it had many issues. Such as something every day. I never want another one,as it served it's purpose when I attened college. VW's are not worth a dime. imo.
