Oil, gas in intake manifold????
So my girls car the idle is ruff at times and stalls at stops some times. I took the throttle body off to clean it and clean the inside of the manifold and found an oil and fuel mixture at the bottom....
Any ideas where it's comin from?? I thinking bad piston rings maybe or a crack in the head?

You have any pics of it? From what I understand, the fuel injectors throw fuel in right before the intake valves, right inside the intake manifold. Over time the intake manifold will get gunky and varnishy from fuel and stuff. Try running some seafoam through it, and really clean it carefully and well. It's very common, and happens to all cars. Probably nothing bad :)
I don't think a bad piston ring would cause your intake to gum up, because if your intake valves are still good, they wouldn't let anything through on the compression or exhaust stroke. If your problem persists, I'd look at the valves, make sure they're seating nicely like they should be. Has your car ever been overheated, or anything like that? Your stalling problem could be tied to a dirty IAC (idle air control valve). If your intake is dirty, chances are that thing is just plain grody too. There are various how-to's on this forum, with pictures and great advice on how to clean that bad boy. Check for vacuum leaks. I'm checking for some on mine, too lol. Check/clean your Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) and make sure it's in the right way. Check your air filter, and all your PCV's and PCV hoses. Any check engine lights? |

The fuel oil mixture was nice and liquid not gummy or anything but it is dirty I sprayed intake cleaner in it and the car still acts up but not as much. The CEL is on I don't remember the #s but it said it is running lean and or not enough air or something like that

I'm actually running lean too lol... If it's that grody in there, you might have some clogged injectors too. That could make it run lean. If you have a just-about-empty tank, pour a buncha seafoam in there, and put some gas in. That should help clean out those injectors.

Is it from the recycled crankcase air? I had this problem from a Honda I had. the recycled crankcase gasses were greasing up my IM and gumming up my PCV valve. I fixed it by removing the hose that carries the gas from the valve cover to the IM and replaced it with a small breather filter.
But as far as the fuel, its a really good question. I have no idea how fuel would work its way up instead of following vacuum down into the cylinders.
