Focus RS engine in SVT??
ok so i have a 2004 3 door SVT. as we all know its a fast cornering car but not as fast as others in the straight. i was hopeing to find a RS engine from the same model focus. the First gen. does any one know how hard it would be? What all would i need to change out? whats different? not sure if im going to do this for sure. but if i get a second car then i would most likely do it if my new car is a cheap car that is a good daily driver. i want to change it out because i would like a engine that comes stock with turbos. and i would put bigger turbos on it. Thanks.

Finding the engines is hard as I think there are only 3 or 4 in the states and I have 2 of them, one is new and one is used. As far as what you have to change out you have to disable the VCT in the ECU and remove that system. The engine is basically a zetec with some better internals and oil squirting. As far as the stock turbos they are hard to find in good shape. My engines came without them but had the manifolds and I planned on upgrading anyways. You can use the stock ECU but you have to disable the VCT and have it tuned for the turbo motor. I am doing this right now with a ZX5 SVT for my daily driver so you will see/hear more of that in a few months (after paint).

The easy thing to do would be to add my DIY turbo kit to your engine and I can also tune it remote and be done with it , no need in loosing the VCT as it works fine with boost , the stock engine would run a long long time at 250-260 to the wheels Tom

Capaldi has RS turbos and minfolds thrown in a large pallet box on their shelf. I've seen them myself. Along with partial JRSC kits. Contact Tim.

There in the junk yards in Mexico as well .... My question is why mess with them , in most cases you can build a Zetec (which is th same things) for what most want for them used and shipping

Well they have low compression ratio pistons at 8.x(can't remember exactly):1 vs the standard zetec IIRC @ 9.6:1.
Also, these are the items that are different from the standard zetec. 1. The head had has different valves and flows better than standard 2. The water pump is a higher flowing pump 3. Engine internals can handle ~375-400HP 4. Intake manifold is a reworked version of the early 2000's plastic one I am sure there are more differences but this is all I can remember off the top of my head. Plus if you are going for an exact RS replica it is just another part of the puzzle. |
