Nothing personal, but if you've been cruising around in an Echo for the past 8 years then your back might just be in SHOCK from sitting in a decent seat...
I'd give it some time to adjust and eventually you'll be able to find a more natural driving position.

I think my issue now is that my back is in pain so I'm adjusting all the time. So I just got to a meeting here. I put the seat and lowest and backest. I then raised it to the level I like. Moved it forward enough so I can push the gas all the way down. Then adjusted the back so my shoulders touch. So I'm going to try not to touch it and once my back feels a little better see if it works.

ive been told that when your shoulders are back up against the seat your wrists should sit on top of the steering wheel. this will allow your arms and shoulder areas to be at rest and comfortably grabbing the wheel. ive come to grow out of the cool lean back phase to a track day position so i can take turns and be alert while controlling the wheel with two hands and rather then one. but if your back is really screwed up go get a massage to revive it a little and go from there with the new seat position you acquired.
