What kind of oil do you use in your Focus?

Looking ahead to my 1st oil change, and wondering what to use. The manual says:

Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet the requirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C945-A, SAE 5W-20 and display the API Certification Mark.

And then it says:

Your engine has been designed to be used with Ford engine oil, which gives a fuel economy benefit while maintaining the durability of your engine. Using oils other than the one specified can result in longer engine cranking periods, reduced engine performance, reduced fuel economy and increased emission levels.

I don't believe any of that last paragraph, but I don't know much about oil so I would love some opinions.

You can use any high quality 5W-20 oil that meets Ford's specification.

The use of synthetic oil (my personal preference) certainly isn't required but it may be a good idea for extended oil change intervals.

The last paragraph is true, if you use an oil that doesn't meet the original specification could cause issues. A heavier weight oil is harder to pump than the specified 5W20 that was filled at the factory. Heavier oils could also increase friction reducing engine performance and decreasing fuel economy. If you stick to something that meets the ford specification that is 5W20 and is api certified you should be fine, but with dyno/fossilized plant oil you will need to run used oil analyses to determine the alternative change intervals vs the factory semi-synthetic oil or going with a full synthetic oil.
