On this st that I bought new back in '04, I said no reds & no roof's. I'd pass on the roof. $2000. I can put else where= mods or somewhere else. If you want sun get a converible mustang gt.

wanted a sun/moon/whatever roof on the focus I bought new in 07 really bad for some reason. never had one before. I wound up never using the stupid thing and it only added weight to the car and took away precious headroom for my helmet (Auto-X)

Never again

Well, I wanted to say thanks for the opinions.

I ended up getting the cheaper Focus without the moonroof and MFT. I'm so happy!

In the end, the lower price, which I was able to knock down even lower just sealed the deal for me. I will miss a moonroof just a bit. But it's something that won't haunt me! Once you get into the technical terms, details, taxes, insurance, etc., you REALLY get focused on the money and bottom line.

In addition, I just didn't like MFT. I know there's hundreds of posts on it here and elsewhere. Primarily, I just find it excessive and don't need that technology in my car. My car, daily driving, road trips, etc. I view as being a time to get away from tech. I'm on a computer and phone way too much. If I'm going to have tech in my life, then it better be good, efficient, clean, functional technology. I have only used point-by-point map directions like once in my life; a backup turning camera, talking to a machine to change my air temp, etc., just totally superfluous. So in the end, the moonroof went the way of MFT and a higher price tag by about $2,100

I'm finally deciding on my new 2013 Focus hatchback this week. I'm working with a local dealer who's given two great prices on nearly-identical Focus's. Both are my preferred color (black) and leather interior, which are my 2 wont budge preferences.

The cheaper Focus by around 2k has no MyFord Touch and no Moonroof. The more expensive has these two features, which really do not matter to me.

So just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the 2012-13 Focus moonroofs. Can you not live without it? Do you even care?! lol.

I've always been a bit divided on them. Obviously the idea of them is great, but I rarely end up using mine as it just seems to create awful noise over 25mph. I don't know, I'm going back and forth! One of my whole points on being able to justify a brand new car is getting a moderately priced Focus. An extra 2k, while not crippling to me, all of a sudden takes the price up a decent amount.
Here's my take. What we think or prefer shouldn't really matter here. You've already stated that neither of the two options matter to you and that you stand to save $2k by not opting for them. So to me the choice is clear, don't get them. Now, as a matter of personal preference I have them both, but then again I'm one of those persons who wouldn't buy any car without them because I use those features extensively. This brings me back to my point. Equip the car the way YOU want it because you're the one driving it and making the payments. What the rest of us think, shouldn't really matter.

Whatever you decide, hope it works out for you.

What shattering issues? Links? All manufacturers have issues with sunroofs breaking time to time but I've heard of them but never have known anybody to have one break. It's more likely you'll crash your car before your sunroof breaks.

I think they're referring to a couple isolated incidents that were on the threads a few months back...

Forget the MFT. Take the moonroof. I love mine.
