Well Plaza Lincoln, after five days, finally fixed the wiper issued. The updated and reprogrammed every module in the car, replaced the rain sensor itself and finally the switch on the steering wheel column. Apparently the later had a faulty connection. Oh they also replaced my battery as they ran it down due to leaving the car "on" without actually starting the vehicle. Hopefully this fixes my issue.

Wow, I'll remember to mention this to my dealer when I bring the car in for the service. The car must have that newly programmed smell.

Mine also do this. I just started turning off wipers when I park the car.

It did seem a little silly to do a dry-wipe when my car sits in a parking garage all day -_-

I've noticed that it seems to happen when there are bug spots or other stuff on the windshield or if the ambient light is at a certain angle. It makes a bit of sense because I don't think the wipers detect moisture but reduced return of IR light from the windshield. My car has always done the dry wipe. I thought it was an unfortunate design flaw because I'd prefer to just always leave it in rain sensing mode. You know, "set and forget." I guess I'll have to add this to the litany of issues I bring up at my next dealership visit.

I have a 13 and get an occasional "dry wipe"... I thought there were no auto-wipers on 13's? Mystifying...

Hi everyone,

A great first step is bringing your Focus to the dealership so that they can inspect. If you don't want to make a special trip, just combine it with an upcoming oil change or other scheduled maintenance appointment.

How about someone just tells us whether or not the "dry wipe" (wipers wipe the windshield on startup if left in sensing mode, whether or not anything is on the windshield) is supposed to happen every time for calibration... or can be changed so it doesnt happen?

It would be very helpful. I don't think that Quicklane will check on rain sensing wiper problems.

I have rain sensing wipers and they DO NOT DRY WIPE when the car is first started. I remember early on when the car was new, in the first month it may have done the dry wipe 2 or 3 times total, but it hasn't done it since.
