The power difference between the premium and regular (or regular plus) is negligible for the most part. In the long run premium will likely keep your engine cleaner (if you don't put in your own additives once in a while) and running more efficiently though.

Just stay away from E-85 (the engines even say nothing greater than E-10 should be used anyways). The difference between E-10 and Non-Ethanol gases is big from the energy point of view. I'll have to find the article (or crunch the numbers again), but even the $0.10 typical difference between E-10 and Non-Ethanol is such that you're better off paying for the Non-Ethanol fuels from a cost-benefit mpg point of view.

Only the Job 1 2012 cars say E0-E10, pretty much all the Job 2 2012 non PZEV cars (those built after 3/5/12) were Flex Fuel compatible and state for Gasoline or Ethanol fuel only, these are good for E0-E85 as evidenced by the blaze yellow fuel filler neck ring and warning documentation.

That doesn't mean you should run it, just that the car has been modified to tolerate it.

Huh, I could swear mine says only E0-E10 ... I could obviously be wrong :) I'll take a look tonight after I get out of the office.

My 4/23/12 build Job 2 SEL is a non PZEV and is also a Flex Fuel Vehicle.

When was your car built, and does it have two catalysts? If it has two cats then it is most likely a Partial Zero Emissions vehicle and therefore would generally not be FFV compatible.

Not sure why I spaced this, but mine is Job 1. Build 12/2011. So yea, no yellow bezel. I forgot completely that Job 2 was becoming FF capable.

Quick question, how do you all know the day your car was built? I only know the month and year. 4/2012. Mine has the yellow e85 ring. Never used it.

www.etis.ford.com, or look at the vin sticker on the driver's door jamb.

See the bottom row of numbers closest to the actual car door? 1201204235001. 1 is either a check digit, or an Ford North America assembly code, 2012,04,23 is the date in Yr/Mo/Day format, and 5001 being the sequence or line code for this car as far as I recall.

Car headed back to a different dealer tomorrow to get a look at my mpg issue. Still have not seen above 30 mpg in months and no matter how many highway miles I put on it. Got a 10 hour trip planned for the end of the year. Should be able to get another all highway run again. If its under 30mpg again I'm might head to a chevy dealer for a car and a lawyer to get rid of the Focus.

The lawyer likely won't be able to help. MPG issues (not saying yours are) can be put right back on the driver saying they're too hard on the gas, stop and go, etc... Lemon law would be your best bet, but you would have to have had the same problem 3 times or more within X time frame to go that route. And since it sounds like nothing was 'wrong', that wouldn't apply.

I don't blame you looking for another car though, that's for sure.

I also noticed you're in Michigan ... I wonder how much the cold plays with the MPGs. I live in central IL and when I drove ~50 miles (fresh tank of gas, reset the trip and mpg calculators) in 22 degree weather I only got 32mpg going 70mph. On trips to NE with speeds of 'at least' 70 mph, I would get 36 or more over the entire trip. But that shouldn't be the main issue, especially since it has gone on for so long with your situation.
