Funny smell from engine bay...

Hey, does anyone know what this new orange coolant smells like when it's burning?

My coolant level is about an inch below the MIN line but I can't find a leak anywhere.

Going to the dealer tomorrow for them to check it out.

Ţake a look at your reservoir again. The left side of it had this shelf thing going on. You might find the rest of the coolant in that area. Can you describe the smell? Is your passenger side carpet wet?

Hmm, it's not trapped in the reservoir. No white smoke and its definitely doesn't smell sweet.

It smells like burning chemicals (best way I can describe it)

I assumed it was coolant burning because it is low now.

I guess we'll see, or I'm expecting be be told its normal...that's happened enough around here.

Humm, have the engine running and take a look at the engine bay. You will see on the left side (while facing your car) 2 circular selenoids that are aligned to the cylinder heads. Those solenoids are equiped with ''O ring'' type of seals. If any of those 2 solenoids are leaking you see engine oil leaking/gushing/spraying etc from those.

I had this issue back in nov 2011 and a faulty VCS (Variable cam Solenoid) was causing some engine oil to spray on the enigine. the smell was very, very bad as you can imagine. Do you see any kind of fluids on top of the engine ?

No fluid on the engine. I know the solenoids your talking about and they are fine.

If I have it running with the hood open, I can smell it pretty bad from the right side of the engine. Behind the throttle body, right on the engine and left of the battery. Just above the transmission.

I had a coolant leak about 10k ago and it leaked onto the top of the tranny. No real smell with that leak thought but this smell is coming from that area.

Strike 4 for Ford. There was a radiator leak. They are putting a new radiator in now.

As stated at the beginning this is the 4th thing to go wrong. Geez.

Oh and the dealer said they smelled it and it was not coolant. They don't know what the smell is. They will power wash the engine compartment and see if it comes back.

New radiator installed. They had to replace the refrigerant for some reason. Still has the funky smell though...
